IMPORTANT FAFSA UPDATES:
Students and families should complete their FAFSA/CADAA as soon as possible to allow Financial Aid and Scholarships additional processing time. The 24-25 FAFSA/CADAA application deadline has now been extended to May 2, 2024 for the State of California and all University of California students.

24-25 FAFSA Processing Delays
- The Department of Education has sent nearly all electronic FAFSA records to institutions. However, UCLA estimates more than one-third of FAFSA records are requiring a correction in the coming weeks.
- Federal Student Aid announced on 4/11/24 that students and FAFSA Form contributors may be able to see correction availability early next week.
- Prospective student aid offers are not expected to be released until late April to early May 2024 but California residents can utilize the University of California Net Price Calculator to estimate costs and financial aid.
- The University of California announced that for the 24-25 academic year, all nine of its undergraduate campuses will extend their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline for first-year undergraduate students to May 15 in efforts to support students and their families impacted by the current delays by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
California Dream Act Application (CADAA) Processing Delays
- The State of California Student Aid Commission has not been able to send any CADAA data to UCLA to date but expects to begin sending data next week.
Mixed Status Family Guidance
- A “mixed-status family” is a family whose members include individuals with different citizenship or immigration statuses where a family member may not have a social security number (SSN). In the past, parents without an SSN could enter all zeros as an SSN but the process has changed due to changes in the FAFSA process.
- As of this week UCLA can confirm over 150 mixed family status students have been able to successfully file the FAFSA with UCLA; however, over 800 or more have experienced FAFSA filing problems.
- The Department of Education reported that they have fixed a majority of the technical issues facing mixed status students in mid-March, but we know problems persist. The Department of Education announced a new solution as of 4/4/24 to resolve an error received by some applicants when they invited a contributor without an SSN to participate in the online FAFSA form. The Department of Education has also issued refreshed guidance to mixed status students.
- UCLA encourages mixed status students to continue to try to file the FAFSA given this background information. We expect to offer virtual workshops in the coming weeks to assist mixed status students complete the FAFSA before the May 2, 2024 FAFSA deadline for the State of California. Please check our website for new guidance and virtual outreach information and refer to our guidance previously provided.

24/25 FAFSA and CADAA Application NOW OPEN!
The 24/25 FAFSA and CADAA application are now available to complete.
The FAFSA Simplification Act of 2020 allowed for major improvements in the financial aid application process beginning in the 2024/25 academic year.
The Simplified FAFSA will:
1. Expand the access to Federal Financial Aid.
2. Reduce the number of questions asked.
3. Enhance data sharing with the IRS to ease the applicants experience.
The CA Dream Act (CADAA) application has undergone similar major changes and improvements.
The delayed FAFSA and CADAA application launch will only impact the 2024/25 academic year.

Extended 2024 FAFSA/CADAA Workshop Schedule- Join us!
UCLA Financial Aid and Scholarships is hosting FREE in-person and zoom workshops for students to learn more about Financial Aid and the FAFSA/CADAA changes implemented for the 24-25 Academic Year. Students will also receive guidance in completing their application.

Prospective Scholarship Application
Prospective UCLA applicants may complete our general application for scholarships that are awarded during the admission cycle for the upcoming Fall quarter.

General Scholarship Application
The UCLA Financial Aid and Scholarships Registered Student Application is open year round.
Each year, a new application cycle will begin in mid-to-late March. Priority consideration for upcoming academic year awards is given to students who submit their general application by June 30th, however the application will remain open beyond June 30th.
Student Loan Repayment Pause Ends in October
With the COVID-19 payment pause coming to an end, borrowers will restart making payments in October 2023. If you are a borrower whose payments were on pause, you will get a notification from your lender, with your payment amount and due date, at least 21 days before the due date.
Make sure to update your information on StudentAid.gov, as well as on your servicer’s website. You can also use the Loan Simulation to compare payment plans, keeping in mind that there is a new Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) Plan.
