How Do I Qualify For Scholarships?

Application for need-based scholarships managed by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office is available each year for continuing UCLA students starting March 1st. You may access the application through MyUCLA.  Entering students apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships via their admission application. Additional University scholarships are also available and additional information can be found at the Scholarship Resource Center. We also recommend that you research Outside Scholarships using search engines recommended sites on our scholarship page.

How Do Outside Scholarships chage My Financial Aid?

Because UCLA meets 100% of your cost of attendance, the receipt of aid from outside sources does make an adjustment to your aid necessary. In order to reduce indebtedness upon graduation, it is our policy to replace a student's self-help (loan and work awards) first. If the amount of outside aid received exceeds the amount of loan and work in your package, grants are then reduced.

Any delay in reporting this information to the Financial Aid and Scholarships office may result in you receiving financial aid in excess of your eligibility, which will necessitate that you be billed for funds already received.

How will outside scholarships or other outside awards affect my financial aid?

Because UCLA meets 100% of your cost of attendance with a combination of grant, scholarship, work-study, and subsidized/unsubsidized student and Parent loan sources, the receipt of aid from outside sources does make an adjustment to your aid necessary. In order that these awards can help a student as much as possible, it is our policy to replace a student's self-help (loan and work awards) first. If the amount of outside aid received exceeds the amount of loan and work in your package, grants are then reduced.

Any delay in reporting this information to the Financial Aid and Scholarships office may result in you receiving financial aid in excess of your eligibility, which will necessitate that you be billed for funds already received.

I am Expecting to Receive Outside Assistance (Scholarships, Fellowships, loans, etc) How will Outside Aid Affect my Financial Aid?

UCLA offers aid (including loans) that meets 100% of your cost to attend, therefore, aid from outside sources does make an adjustment to your aid necessary. To ensure that outside awards provide the greates benefit possible to the student, we will replace a student's self-help (loan and work awards) first. If the amount of outside aid received exceeds the amount of loan and work in your package, grants are then reduced.

Any delay in reporting this information to the Financial Aid and Scholarships office may result in you receiving financial aid in excess of your eligibility, which will necessitate that you be billed for excess funds already received.
