Disbursements / Bills / Refunds

After UCLA students enroll in their classes, the University Registrar’s Office assesses registration fees and posts all charges to your UCLA BruinBill account. Prior to each academic quarter, you will receive an electronic Student Account Statement (bill) from UCLA's Student Account Services. This bill lists all term-based charges (ex: tuition, fees, health insurance). Student Accounts also distributes several courtesy Pre-Term reminders throughout the year to help you manage your BruinBill. The quarterly Pre-Term reminders outline important dates and deadlines for students on the quarter system. Bi-weekly billing reminders are also distributed to accounts with a BruinBill balance, and their authorized third parties.

Disbursement

Financial aid is generally disbursed into your UCLA Student Account 10 days prior to the start of quarter and applied to tuition and registration fees (Exception: the winter quarter disbursement is processed at the end of the first business day after the new year ). Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 units or more in order for financial aid to disburse.  If you have outstanding charges on your BruinBill after financial aid is disbursed, you are responsible for paying these outstanding charges by the deadline listed on your BruinBill.

Refunds

Financial aid in excess of tuition and registration fees will result in a refund to the student. Students should use their refund to cover all other expenses such as housing, books, travel, and personal expenses.

Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in BruinDirect to have faster access to their refund. BruinDirect allows students to receive their refund via a direct deposit into a U.S. Checking or savings account 2-3 business days after the refund posts to BruinBIll. Students who DO NOT sign- up for BruinDirect will receive a paper mailed check via USPS to the official address on file with UCLA. Paper refund checks may take up to 10 business days to process.

It is important for students to check their UCLA BruinBill account regularly. Some fees may be assessed throughout the quarter(s), and students need to ensure to budget out enough funds to pay for these expenses. Additional information about Bruin Bill and Bruin Direct is available on the Student Accounts Website.
